A MESSAGE FROM SENSEI

I wish to thank all of my students for their devotion to the art of karate and to our club. Without you we would not have grown to be one happy and growing family. The students that are leaving are not really leaving, because we are part of them and they will always be part of us. We hope they will continue to practice the art and return to us better martial artist and better humans.

ANNUAL SUMMER CAMPOUT

The annual campout held at Plymouth Rock, WI was another success. We’re happy to announce all 23 participants made it home in one piece. Included in the weekend were lots of good food and refreshments, swimming, horseback riding, even a night of country dancing for the older folks, and you guessed it, a nice long karate workout. As the group readied themselves for home they were surprisingly refreshed by a water fight started by none other than Fric and Frac. Wouldn’t you know it. What a mess, but fun. It was too bad not all could join us this year, but you get another chance next year. July 14th and 15th.

A VISIT FROM MIKE

As a lot of you have heard by now, Mike Hayashi was here for a vacation. A “small” party was held in his honor at the Graham’s. As usual Gail and Red out did themselves to make everyone feel at home. It was good to see Mike again, sorry he had to go back so soon. For those who did not get to see him, he said to say “Hi”.

GOODBYES

It saddens me to finally face the fact that summer is coming to an end. All of our younger students will be returning to school. It will be even harder for four of our favorite friends to leave for college. Jan Rostron will be heading for DePaw, in Indiana, and Ellen Camacaris, Mary Cascarano (Frac) and Audrey Juppe (Fric) will be taking over the U of I at Champaign. Good luck to the schools, they’ll need it. (Just kidding) We all wish the four of you our very best. Study hard and practice your katas.

BYE-BYE PARTY

In honor of Jan, Ellen, Fric and Frac, another party was held at Red’s. Fric and Frac initiated the festivities, which included dancing, feasting upon a six-foot submarine (thanks to the Graham’s) and various other delicacies. Shotokan Slushes kept the group in giggles and socializing was at its tops. The party continued through the evening and into the early morning. Various die-hards refused to end the festivities, such as Aunt Mat, who finally danced her last dance almost to the early rays of the sun. We all thank Red and Gail for the great good-bye and we hope “hangover haven” will survive.

ANOTHER SAD FAREWELL COMING

A sad farewell goes to “Poppa Smurf” alias Ralph Fiesel and everyone’s little sweetheart, Robbie. This fall they will be leaving for new adventures. Ralph is moving to Arizona in hopes of starting a new and enriching life. From there, Robbie will be experiencing another facet of living; the Air Force. An exact date as to when they’re leaving is yet unknown. We will all miss them dearly.
