Kyosi was born Erwin Graham in 1938.  Known to all as "Red".  He lived most of his life in Illinois and moved to Florida in 1996.  He has run Martial Arts Schools in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Florida.  The following includes some of his history in the martial arts.
 

Red Graham Kyoshi Started his Martial Arts Career in 1966 studying Judo.
 
He began studying Shotokan Karate in 1968, under Master Richard C. Bieles (Doc) and Sensei Eddie Sanders, Jr.
 
He received his dans as follows:
  • Shodan 1979
  • Nidan 1982
  • Sandan 1985
  • Yodan 1988
  • Godan 1991
  • Rokudan 1996
  • Shichidan 2000

Kyoshi over the years has studied many different styles besides Shotokan Karate and achieved dan ranks in many of them.

Kyoshi has had many achievements and recognitions during his career in Martial Arts.  The following are just some of them:
  • 1978  Presidential Sports Award
  • 1983  Midwest Circuit Outstanding Instructor of the Year
  • 1984  Midwest Circuit Outstanding Instructor of the Year
  • 1986  AKA Pan Am Games * 1st in Kata
  • 1987  AKA Pan Am Games * 2nd in Fighting
  • 1987  AKA Top 10 of the Year Seniors Division in both Kata & Fighting
  • 1993  Developed the 1st Self Defense Program for Girl Scouts of America
  • 1993  PSDI (Police Self-Defense Instructors) Certification
  • 1994  PSDI Wisconsin State Director
  • 1996  Inducted into The World Martial Arts Hall of Fame
  • 1996  Inducted into The World Martial Arts Congress Hall of Fame
  • 1998  Recipient of The Grand Master Frank Ruiz Memorial Award
